About our Founder

My name is Olivia Rufo. I am currently going into my junior year of high school. As I started to look into the college process, I found myself confused and lost on where to start. I went to my parents to ask for help. Although my parents wanted to help me through this process, they too did not know how because they are both immigrants and did not have the opportunity to attend an university. I then tried to research and find resources for first generation high school students like me, and found little to nothing. With a lack of guidance and resources, I began to feel hopeless and the college process became to seem more daunting and intimidating. As I talked to some of my peers, I realized this is a very common feeling for first generation students, which inspired me to create this organization to help others dealing with the same thing. My goal is to use Generation One as a space for first generation high school students that are going through this experience to find the resources they need to improve their application and build up their confidence by providing them with direction and advice.
